Our Mission
Alcoholism and drug addiction destroy lives and tear families apart. We know, we’ve been there. And we know there is a solution. That’s why we founded Healing Herts, a charity dedicated to giving those struggling with addiction of any kind in the county of Hertfordshire help and hope – and the opportunity to rebuild their shattered lives.
The first step to a new life
Addiction is not a lifestyle choice, it’s an illness and there is no cure. But it can be treated. Seeking help is the first step to recovery, but it takes courage. Contact us now to find out how.
We are here to support you
The rehabilitation process can be bewildering, especially when you’re not thinking straight. We are here to support you, and provide the funds you need to start your recovery.
The bedrock of recovery
Getting clean and sober is essential, it’s the bedrock of recovery, but no one can do this alone. Through our partners and our own experience, we can help you take that first step.
Make A Real Change In Someone’s Life
The figures don’t lie. Across the board the numbers of people seeking help for substance misuse is rocketing year on year. By far the most commonly abused substance is alcohol, but increasingly people are turning to cocaine, ketamine and more recently synthetic opioids such as fentanyl and nitazenes. But seeking help is one thing, getting it is another. There were 310,863 adults aged 18 and over in contact with drug and alcohol treatment services between April 2023 and March 2024, a 7 per cent rise compared to the previous year (290,635), the largest rise since 2008-2009. But the number of adults actually entering treatment in 2023 to 2024 was 158,991, which is higher than the previous two years’ figures (133,704 and 137,749).
That means that more than half of those seeking help for a substance misuse problem are not getting it.
There has been a significant decrease in spending on addiction services since the government passed funding responsibility to local councils in 2012. As a result, it is now very difficult to get local authority-funded access to private rehab. In England alone, more than half of local authorities have cut their budgets for drug and alcohol treatment despite addiction-related hospital admissions soaring.
And that is where Healing Herts can help. We are passionate about helping sufferers to access the treatment they need by helping to fund them through a rehabilitation programme.
Alcohol-related deaths in 2023, the highest number on record. The number was 4 per cent higher than in 2022 and a staggering 38 per cent higher than in 2019, the last pre-Covid year. The rate for males is double that for females.
Deaths in 2023 from drug misuse. Just under half were confirmed to involve an opiate (46.8 per cent), while 1,118 deaths involved cocaine, which is 30.5 per cent more than 2022 and represents the 12th consecutive annual rise.
Alcohol-specific hospital admissions in the financial year 2023 to 2024, the highest figure since records began, with rates of admission twice as high in the ten most deprived local authority areas than in the ten least deprived.
